Rhys Stanley (West Adelaide/SA) - Draft Profile

Height: 200.4cm
Weight: 88.5kg
Style: Inside ruckman/inside marking and leading forward
Preferred foot: Right
Potential: 5-7.5/10

Strengths

> Decent pace for a ruck and good vertical leap
> Sound 2nd efforts and has solid ability at releasing runners and feed in traffic
> Has experience at senior level – 2 SANFL games – apparently acquitted himself well
> Capable resting as a forward and kicking goals
> Smart tapping ability – finds midfielders with a lot of his taps
> Very good kicking action – above average for a ruckman - has good power (kicks through the footy), control and linear set shot style
> Good OH grab – generally clean one take, both on the lead and in a pack – also capable of taking a ‘speccy’ too
> Provides very good pressure off the ball – has the ability to run down midfielders which only him and Naitanui do consistently out of the ruckman in this draft (not as good as Naita at doing it though)

Weaknesses

> Lacks an engine
> Unmobile around the ground – doesn’t seem great at getting down with his hands to the ground balls
> Doesn’t win much of the ball – don’t think he knows where to run?

Other

> Basketballing background

Overall

Stanley is still raw has some very attractive attributes for a ruckman, is bottom aged and still growing into his body. I see him as having good upside to be an above average 2nd ruck/forward for his team.
