Kieran Harper (Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro)

187/78 outside-in utility
Style like Robert Murphy
Capable of sustaining a ranking of 3-12 within an AFL list

Selling points are his balance and evasion, neat ball use by hand and foot on both sides of the body, decision making, composure and poise with the ball, clean gathers, attacking instinct, pace off the mark and over distance, good defensive impact and an effective tackler

Very elegant player – has a huge amount of class and style.

Has the ability to kick freakish goals as demonstrated in the televised U18 Championships game

Interesting that he said he has trouble adhering to game plans and structures and prefers to play on instinct – this may put quite a few clubs off using a first rounder on him.

Queries over his consistency within games (patchy with his involvement rather than attributes)

Harper has standout physical attributes and football skills but apart from the televised U18 Championships game (he was close to BOG) has only shown what he’s capable of in patches.

I see him as having the potential to be a very good half forward that has can be used off half back or in the midfield, but could be a bit of a talent tease due to the lack of consistency in his game.

Can he put it all together? I hope so!

Could play a few AFL games next year in a medium forward role, but I wouldn’t make that prediction with great confidence - he has an excellent athletic frame that should fill out very nicely, but probably needs another 8kg to reach his ideal playing weight, which could take 3-4 pre-seasons.
