Tom Allwright (Tasmania) - Draft Profile

Height: 187.1cm
Weight: 85.9kg
Preferred foot: Right
Role: Linking midfielder
Potential: 6-7.5/10

Strengths

> Well built
> Clean hands below the knees
> Good defensive work ethic – chases and tackles effectively
> Ideal height for a midfielder and strong aerial ability – good OH mark
> Very good agility and lateral movement
> VFL experience in 2008 with Tasmania
> Sound user by both foot and hand with time

Weaknesses

> Lacks pace off the mark, but better over distance (1.90s for back 15m)
> Poor engine
> Lacks hurt factor
> Lacks versatility
> Doesn’t win much of the footy – not very proactive in seeking his own ball – doesn’t win enough footy at the stoppages for a midfielder
> DM under pressure isn’t consistently good

Other

> Very good junior rower – shows in his upper body shape/physical development

Overall

Allwright is as his name suggests, alright – not great, not terrible just a satisfactory vanilla prospect. He’ll never be the star of the show and if he was 5cm shorter he probably would be casted off as dime a dozen and not in contention. He’ll more than likely always be serviceable – I think it’s more likely to be at VFL rather than AFL level.
