Sam Gray (Port Adelaide Magpies/SA) - Draft Profile
174/77 inside general forward/midfielder
Similar style to Adam Schneider
Capable of sustaining a ranking of 12-25
Good general smarts
Very good intensity at the contest, competitiveness and 1%ers, – team orientated player.
Overhead marking for his size is very good
Strong contested ball winner.
Pace is decent, produces some good acceleration bursts, although as a sub 175cm player you’d want him to be very quick or close to it.
Evasive ability is good – creates time for himself with smart footwork.
Endurance seems OK, but given he is small and not lightning quick, it needs to be at a higher level.
Has good goal sense.
Has acquitted himself very well at SANFL according to reports.
Stocky tradesman body shape – would look more at home in country league football than AFL.
Main concern would be his height.
Could be a very handy small half forward at AFL that at worse will provide good pressure on the state league - I would be interested with at earliest a late national draft selection and definitely consider him with a rookie selection.
